Museum Terminal for Rijeka ECoC 2020

On Wednesday, 20 May, a unique exhibition titled ?Museum Terminal? was opened at Rijeka Airport on the island of Krk. This project was realised at the initiative of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and in cooperation with museum institutions grouped under the name of ?Muzeji zajedno? (?Museums Together?), the cities of Rijeka, Opatija and Crikvenica and Rijeka Airport.

IMG_5768The aim of this exhibition is to present the county’s institutions to tourists, to interest them in visiting attractions in an interactive manner and in spotting the biodiversity of the Kvarner region, or to simply have fun in the children’s corner by playing the trivia game ?Znalac Muzealac?.

The idea for the airport exhibition was inspired by the already-existing wall mural by Oton Gliha on the topic of ?groma?a? stone walls, which was purpose-made for the airport in 1970. The desire to promote this artwork grew into this ambitious project to ?museumify? the space of the airport. Such exhibitions are not a rarity on a global scale, but this exhibition is the first of its kind in this part of Europe.

The exhibition comprises 25 works (graphics, paintings, sculptures and installations) from the holdings of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and an array of exhibitions from the holdings of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral, the City of Rijeka Museum, the Natural History Museum Rijeka and the City of Crikvenica Museum. The exhibition will be supplemented over time, and one of the parts is creating ?airport music? based on the motifs of traditional music from the littoral.
