Programmes engulf the Port of Diversity

As a response to the invitation for proposing programmes, 187 applications by independent applicants and cultural institutions have arrived. It seems that half the town applied – from well-established associations and famous faces to propositions from new kids on the block that supplied great ideas and visions of the city in the (not so) distant year for 2020.

IMG_0053The invitation for proposing programmes to act an integral part of the European Capital of Culture project was issued on 24 December last year with the goal of creating the programme for the Rijeka ECoC 2020 project, and the programmes accepted will represent an integral part of the application documentation.

All proposals are evaluated by a work group for the creation of the programme proposal for the Rijek ECoC 2020 project and the Department of Culture of the City of Rijeka, while the ?results? themselves will be known in March.

The work group for creating programme proposals for Rijeka ECoC 2020 is composed of all the directors of the cultural institutions of the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, together with the external associates Karin Šerman, Lidija Niko?evi?, Janka Vukmir, Goran Lisica Fox, Hrvoje Ivankovi?, Fe?a Vuki?, Branimir Pofuk, Dragan Rubeša and Kruno Lokotar.

Such a vast amount of applications indicates that a large number of cultural workers from Rijeka see the European Capital of Culture project as an opportunity to prove themselves with their work, to expand their activity and, finally, to enrich the cultural offer of the city.

All of the aforementioned was presented at today’s press conference by the Head of the City Department of Culture Ivan Šarar, the leader of the candidacy project and advisor for international cooperation, Irena Kregar-Šegota and Slaven Tolj, the director of the Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, who is also a member of the team for developing the candidacy concept.
